Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming Out in November

So, I definitely forgot to do this list for October.   I was so busy the whole month, I completely blanked on it.  My bad, ya’ll.  But now, I’m back, and ready to give you the best movies coming out in November.  This month is completely loaded.  So loaded, in fact, I had to leave off such titles as Nocturnal Animals, Moana, Trolls, and one of my favorite movies of 2016, Elle.  I also excluded Hacksaw Ridge and Doctor Strange as I already saw them.  But, these five, I feel, are the essential movies you need to see this month.  Two of them I have already seen and the other three are highly anticipated movies I’ve been excited about all year.  So here you go, five awesome movies coming out in November.

5 – BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK (Ang Lee, November 11)

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk was one of my most anticipated movies of the year.  Director Ang Lee follows up his 2012 Oscar win for Life of Pi with a war film that shows the horrors of war versus the American perception of war.  Lee shot the film at 120 frames per second, which has never been done before in the history of movies.  While the reception for this new film rate, and the film in general, has been lukewarm since it premiered at the New York Film Festival, just the idea of a great director pushing the medium to new levels has me excited.

4 – FANTASTIC BEATS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (David Yates, November 18)

Anything that has to do with Harry Potter is always going to get me excited.  I loved those movies and am excited to see the universe expand to new places.  The thing that makes Fantastic Beasts even more intriguing is that I am so unfamiliar with this specific source material, that the movie remains a complete mystery to me.  The movie’s cast is also great, with Colin Ferrell, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterson, and Eddie Redmayne, though I am not a big fan of his.  This looks like a visual stunner and should be another magical journey.

3 – BLEED FOR THIS (Ben Younger, November 18)

I am a sucker for a good boxing movie.  Rocky (1976), Raging Bull (1980), and most recently, The Fighter (1980), and Creed (2015) are some of my favorite movies of all-time.  Bleed for This has that potential.  Starring Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart, this is the true story about Vinny Pazienza (Teller), a championship boxer who gets in a near-fatal car accident and tries to get back to his championship ways with the help of his trainer, Kevin Rooney (Eckhart).  Teller looks ripped and intense and I have Eckhart as the current frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor at this year’s Oscars.  This is going to be an inspirational knockout that could land as a boxing classic.

2 – MANCHESTER BY THE SEA (Kenneth Lonergan, November 18)

Manchester by the Sea was one of the last movies I saw at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.  The hype was through the roof for the film and for its stars, Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams.  The hype was real.  I’ll write a full review for the film near its release date, but this is as powerful a film I’ve seen in 2016.  The movie’s plot relies on knowing as little as possible, but it revolves around an uncle (Affleck) who must overcome personal tragedy to take care of his nephew after his father dies.  Affleck gives the very best performance of 2016 and Michelle Williams is at her peak.  This is an Oscar favorite and one of the best movies of 2016.

1 – ARRIVAL (Dennis Villeneuve, November 11)

I just saw this movie last week as the closing night movie at the Chicago International Film Festival.  I don’t want to give away too much about how I feel, but I will say that this movie had my jaw on the floor.  It is an incredibly intelligent and human film and one that will blow your mind.  It features one of the best performances of Amy Adams career and proves that Villeneuve is one of the best directors working today.  This is easily one of the best movies of 2016 and a film that elevates the sci-fi genre to new heights.
